The female House Finch is known to return to a birdhouse multiple years in a row. Considering they live 9-10 years, that’s quite a long-term lease!
While most birds build new nests each year, a House Finch is more than happy to move back into her old house (assuming a Wren does not beat her to it). An unassuming, medium-sized bird, the female is mostly shades of brown while the male can have partial coloring from red to orange to yellow.
